Ramps in Berlin
Description
Ramps improve the mobility of many people in Berlin's neighborhood, for whom even one step to a store is a significant hurdle. Together with the City Councilor for Urban Development, Social Affairs and Citizens' Services in Neukölln, Jochen Biedermann and representatives in the field of accessibility, first floor stores were presented with the first of a total of 66 mobile ramps. The Neukölln neighborhood management areas Richardplatz Süd and Körnerpark had set themselves the task of becoming more barrier-free as part of the project "Sicher durch den Kiez" (Safe through the neighborhood) together with the project sponsor AG.URBAN. With 66 ramps, the project has so far set an example for a concrete improvement in accessibility for everyday trips; often only district facilities are barrier-free. Raul Krauthausen, spokesman for the social heroes, comments: "No one buys their sandwiches at City Hall, and even disabled people like to drink a beer sometimes."
